Every student organization on campus helps students connect with their peers, even becoming a second family to our students. The MSOE Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) focuses on ensuring that all students of color have a home at MSOE and have the opportunity to connect with people who look like them and have similar goals. MSOE continually strives to improve diversity on campus while building an inclusive community both for our students and local K-12 students to encourage them to see the possibilities available to them. While we have made great strides over the years, the work in this area is never done. NSBE has played a pivotal role in helping us to continue to enhance our efforts, even being recognized at the national level as the “Best Small Chapter of the Year” in 2018.
Dr. Michael Barber `82 and Dr. Jacqueline Herd-Barber `84 have graciously provided a challenge to support the dedication of the National Society of Black Engineers Conference Room in the Dwight and Dian Diercks Computational Science Hall to honor of alumni who participated in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and provide a space for current student members. All gifts up to $6,500 will be matched by the Barbers dollar for dollar. By responding to the challenge, MSOE Giving Day donors have an opportunity to complete the funding and permanently name the space the NSBE Conference Room. All donors to the project will be recognized on a naming plaque placed inside the conference room.
